It was supposed to be a victory day
It was a closed courtroom that had the final hearing on the Stilinski-Grayson divorce. The evidence against the Grayson family as a whole was damning from the photographs of the attempted kidnapping, the assault charges, the history of abuse... it wasn't hard for the judge to grant the divorce.
It was the terms that shocked Stiles the most: Permanent No Contact order of Protection for him and Dina against the Graysons and any family member or agent on their behalf. Any contact moving forward for Stiles or Dina would be done through the Law Office of Samuel Winchester. Suzanna's parental rights over Claudia Marie were terminated, no visitation by anyone in the family or agents acting on their behalf, and Stiles was given sole custody of his daughter with an order to change her birth certificate to remove the Grayson part of her name and Suzanna from her records.
And then the big one: in order to protect the Stilinski family, alimony and child support would be established as a single lump-sum payment based on the financials of the Grayson family and taking into consideration the medical needs Stiles would continue to face both physical and emotionally at present and in the future, and to support Dina for all her present and future medical and educational needs.
Two Million Dollars. Half kept in trust for Dina until her 18th birthday or graduation from high school, whichever came first. The other half in account for Stiles to use as he deemed necessary to provide for his family. Plus all of Sam's legal fees were paid by the Grayson's.
And that was that. Stiles stood, partially in shock as the team of lawyers left with Suzanna and her father, and then he just turned and hugged Sam tightly. The taller man smiled at Malia, nodding at a job well done, and hugged his client back. "You did it, Stiles. You got your daughter the safety you wanted for her. Now it's time for you both to build a better life."
A plumbing issue had kept Stiles from moving into Allison's father's place right away, so he was still at the Hale house. Things had gotten a bit easier with the anger finally out in the air. But after a long day at court, Stiles was ready to join his daughter for naptime before dinner.
John hadn't wanted to worry Stiles, but the Grayson brothers had made bail and weren't in custody any longer. He warned Talia, but with the protective orders in place, putting a detail on the house wasn't possible without a real threat in the air.
No one realized that out in the desert, deals had been made between the family patriarch and another patriarch - Gerard Argent. Knowing that the Hales were protecting the granddaughter of his good friend, it was easy to help equip the two sons with a chip on their shoulder with the right weapons, and a team of hand picked hunters, to help them give one last message that no one could walk away from the Grayson family and expect to win.

"Don't even think of it, boy," Thomas said, his rifle trained back on him. "You've lost this battle."
"I take her out, others will come and finish the job." He got his sights.
"Ray."
The man turned, and Stiles stood there, only a few feet away as he came out from behind his jeep with a handgun aimed. "You don't threaten my family," he said, and fired one shot. The bullet snapped Ray's head back, and the man went down. Stiles didn't lower the gun though, his arm extended and his face a blank slate devoid of emotion.

She then turns and steps back up to Stiles meeting his eyes gently and reaching for the weapon in his hand.
"Stiles, give me the gun."
no subject
Stiles lets go of the weapon easily, his eyes on the still body on the ground near him, and finally he slowly lets out the breath he had been holding. His hand is shaking once the weapon is gone, and he looks up at Nadia, confusion in his eyes.

Fiona looks up at puppy Peter and nods. "Take Cora upstairs to her room so she can sleep it off. I'll work on him here." She then turns and looks to the wolf, concerned. "Whatever you do? Don't shift. Not until I get the bullet and the wolfsbane out."
Nadia takes the gun from him gently, placing it on the ground gently, before taking another step closer to him. "It's okay. You're okay. Everyone's fine." Except for Ray, of course.

Liam nodded. "Do you want to watch a movie, Dina?"
"Can we watch Powerpuff Girls?"
Liam looked up at Derek, begging him not to put him through this. Derek chuckled. "Yes, you can watch Powerpuff Girls." And he led the way upstairs.
Stiles watched her a moment, and then his eyes flicked up to Talia. The shock was starting to kick in, and his heartbeat was rising with the panic. He took a step back away from the body, his shaking hand going to cover his lips a moment, realization what he had done dawning, and then he looked back at the house, at the destruction and the Hales on the porch. Then he looked back at the forest and saw the other bodies in different states of dead.
And he panicked and took off running into the woods.

Cora burrows into her brother's arms slightly, searching out his scent as a source of comfort on instinct. She doesn't stir any more than that, however, and when she's placed down in her bedroom, she just curls up into Lydia's side and sleeps straight through whatever noise is happening around her.

"Okay," Dina said, working the tablet on her own.
Derek pulled Liam aside. "Stay up here and watch them. If anything happens, just should for me and I'll come running, okay?"
"Got it."
Derek left, going to his room and finding a spare outfit of his in the closet and a blanket, then returning back downstairs to check on Fiona and Peter, who was still in wolf form, panting and his eyes shut. "How is he?"
Stiles ran as far as his legs would take him before they gave out. He stumbled over a large root of a tree, sending him tumbling down a small depression into a ditch. He didn't get back up, laying on the ground gasping for air as the fear and panic caught up first and left him a breathless, shaking mess on the ground.

Fiona glances up as she finishes burning out the rest of the wolfsbane, before nodding and taking the blanket from Derek, spreading it over the lower half of the wolf. "We're good. I got it all, you can shift back now." She would have let him do it before, but she didn't want to run the risk of something getting lost in his system once internal organs started shifting around.
Talia catches up with him and immediately crouches down next to him, one hand moving towards his back slowly. "Stiles?" She speaks clearly so that he can hear her before she touches him, not wanting to panic him more than he already was.

Liam snorted at the girl snuggle fest on the bed, and he went to go sit in the windowsill so that he could see down in the front yard. Because he wanted to know what was going to happen to all the hunters. he really hated hunters.
The red wolf gave a very human nod, and Derek watched as the fur faded back and the body shifted to expand back into Peter's human form. He had seen his mother do it so many times, but it was still rare that Peter let anyone watch him shift into this. He knelt down, putting the clothes next to him. "Nadia's upstairs dealing with the sheriff. She's fine." He knew how much Peter would want to know the status of his mate, so it was the first thing he told him. "Are you okay?"
"You mean beyond the excruciating pain?" Peter groaned, not moving much.
Derek snorted. "You'll be fine."
Stiles looked up at Talia, struggling for breath but not at the point he needed his inhaler. Something about the running had helped. "I.... I actually... I've never..."

Talia knows what he's saying without him having to say it. She reaches for his shoulder gently, pulling him into a hug before he can protest and just letting him bury into her if he wants to.
"It's okay. It'll be okay."

Derek smirked. "No, I'm good. A few knife cuts that are already healed, but no bullets." Nik would be proud that Derek keeps up his training, especially since he had a little wolf of his own to train now.
Stiles doesn't fight, doesn't resist, and instead just clings to Talia tightly because he is trembling and confused and scared. Scared of himself. And the moment he is in the hug, his fingers gripping into her top, the tears finally come. It's the breaking down they have really all been waiting for from him, brought on as he realized just how far he had slipped from who he was that he would actually be able to kill someone so coldly like that to defend his daughter... himself...
No, he had done more than that. It was Talia who had been in danger in that moment. That was what made him come out from his hiding spot. And suddenly all the fighting he had done trying to push away the Hales made no sense because he had, even as a human, developed the instinct to protect his alpha and pack no matter what. And he didn't know what that meant because he was human and he wasn't supposed to be a killer.

Talia just reels him in close smoothing a hand over the back of his head as she shushes him softly. She knows this is a lot for anyone to go through and she keeps her voice calm, just letting him get out what he needed to get out.
"You were protecting your family." Her family, but really her family has always been his family. "It'll be okay, Stiles."
no subject
Sighing, Peter just gave up and relaxed back into the floor. "You kids are growing up way too fast..." he muttered, tucking the clothes under his head as a pillow instead and he was just going to let himself pass out.
Taking Fiona's hand, he led her back upstairs so she could go talk to Nadia while he went to investigate the scene and see what he could find. That was about the time that the Sheriff's car pulled up behind the rest of the cars and John and Isaac got out. John took in the scene with wide eyes as Isaac lifted his hand to his nose, overwhelmed by the stench of blood, gunpowder, and death in the air.
Stiles kept on clinging, gulping for breath between bouts of crying. "I don't want to turn into them. I can't turn into them. I'm not like them," he kept saying over and over again.
no subject
"They were here for your son. You might want to go with 'animal attacks.'" She's not even going to bother to pretend she didn't do most of the damage. There's no point. "But off the record? Stiles shot that one." She tips her head to the heavily mutilated corpse. "Talia's with him now, but I thought you should be prepared. He was going to kill Talia, Stiles stopped him."
Which is ... really the basic rundown of it all.
"They were working with hunters, though. Someone close to them knows."
Talia continues to shush him softly, rocking him gently as she does. "No, you're not. You're not like them." There's a great deal of difference between someone who's killed and someone who's a killer. "You were protecting your family. That doesn't make you a monster."
no subject
He sniffled, taking her words and trying to make himself believe them as he curled into her more. He was hitting the exhausted crying stage where his eyes had nothing left to cry out, but he was still trying. "I don't know who I am anymore, Talia. I didn't do things like this before. Why me/ Why did they come after me?"
no subject
"I don't know," she says softly, just keeping him curled close. "Sometimes these things just happen. But given time, I'm sure you'll figure it out again. You were pretty good at that once - that's not the kind of thing that goes away for good."
no subject
"I've said so many bad things to you guys. I'm a horrible person. I don't want to be this person anymore."
no subject
"You don't have to be." She pulls back just slightly, so that he's looking at her more. "It's over, Stiles. You don't have to use it to protect yourself anymore. You can be whoever you want to be."
no subject
He looked back up at her, a scared, broken mess. "But they're never going to stop coming. I thought this would stop them, but they won't, will they?"
no subject
"Maybe not. We can't say for sure." If there were hunters helping, they're not going to buy the line about animal attacks, and they'll have to make preparations for that, but that isn't the important thing. "But you won't have to do it alone anymore."
no subject
He nodded, and his face turned apologetic. "I'm so sorry for all the things I've said about the pack. You know I didn't really mean it, right? I just... I'm used to pushing people away to keep them away from me so they stay safe. It was the only thing I could think of."
no subject
"I know." One hand comes up and brushes against his forehead gently, and she gives him a small smile. "Family does that sometimes. And family forgives for it too."
